On this auspicious day, Rotary Club of Mombasa was delighted to partner with Light International Mombasa with the support of UNYA (United Nations Youth Association) in the presentation of desks which were repaired and painted by the LIS students. A very happy recipient, Kashani primary and junior secondary school, which hosts 1,824 students, was a never-ending sad story. With these numbers, the school has only 10 toilets , 2 dedicated to the faculty. The facility is equally shared by the community, and since the school bears no fence, there are a lot of walk-ins. Suggested short-term and long-term proposals are being prepared by the youth and community service committees in conjunction with Light International (incoming interact Club – yet to be chartered) and United Nations Youth Association. Of the tasks to be looked into for long term are: Computer lab, 6 additional toilets, Desk donations, new classes needed, Fence, Lunch feeding program, School painting. Short -term are: leaking roof and Shoes project.
An education trust that began in 1970 by sponsoring thousands of deserving children with secondary fees primarily in the Coast province have now shifted to scholarships for needy students who attend Vocational institutions.
