Over the years, the Rotary Club has undertaken several transformative initiatives that have significantly improved the lives of Makanzani’s residents:
Nursery School Initiative (1990s):
Built the first formal learning facility for young children in Makanzani.
Enabled access to foundational education, paving the way for academic success.
Today, the children nurtured in this school need secondary education to fulfill their potential.

Primary School Initiative:
Constructed a primary school to provide access to basic education for children in Makanzani.
Equipped the school with essential resources to ensure a conducive learning environment.
Supported hundreds of students in progressing toward secondary education.

General Medical Clinic:
Established a clinic to address common illnesses and provide basic medical services.
Significantly reduced the prevalence of treatable diseases through early diagnosis and intervention.
The clinic continues to serve as a lifeline for hundreds of families, providing critical healthcare access.

Maternity Clinic Initiative (2013):
Built a dedicated maternity wing to provide safe and dignified childbirth facilities.
This project, funded largely by the late Yusuf Manujee, has transformed maternal and infant health in Makanzani.

Piped Water Project:
Installed a piped water system to bring clean and safe drinking water to the community.
Reduced the burden on women and children who previously walked long distances to fetch water.
Improved hygiene standards, leading to better health outcomes.
Water Collection Tanks and Water Harvesting Systems:
Installed multiple water tanks and harvesting systems in key community locations.
Enabled effective use of rainwater, ensuring a reliable water supply during dry seasons.

Vocational Laboratory:
Set up a vocational lab to equip youth with practical skills in carpentry, mechanics, and tailoring.
Empowered hundreds of young people with employable skills, reducing unemployment rates in the area.
Computer Lab:
Introduced a computer lab to teach digital literacy and bridge the technology gap.
Prepared students for modern education and employment opportunities in an increasingly digital world.

The Next Chapter: Building a Secondary School
While these achievements have made a profound impact, Makanzani now faces a pressing challenge—the lack of a secondary school.
Education Gap: Students completing primary education must travel over 10 kilometers to access secondary school. This distance often leads to high drop-out rates, especially among girls.
CBC Requirements: Kenya’s Competency-Based Curriculum demands modern infrastructure, including science labs, talent centers, and digital learning spaces, none of which are currently available in Makanzani.
To address this, we propose building a state-of-the-art secondary school that will serve as a beacon of opportunity for the community.
The proposed school will include:
The total cost of the project is KSh 40 million, covering:
• Super Shell Construction: KSh 25 million for the foundational structure.
• Finishing and Additional Facilities: KSh 15 million for equipping classrooms, labs, and talent centers.
Our Contribution So Far:
The Rotary Club has pledged to raise the KSh 15 million balance through community fundraising and partnerships.
Mr. Habib, your support can turn this vision into reality. By partnering with us, you will:
1. Bridge the Education Gap: Enable over 1,000 students to access quality secondary education in the coming decade.
2. Promote Equity: Provide safe, inclusive facilities that empower girls and boys equally.
3. Create a Lasting Legacy: Continue the tradition of impactful giving exemplified by the late Yusuf Manujee.
With your contribution:
• Immediate Benefits: Reduce drop-out rates and improve academic outcomes for Makanzani’s youth.
• Long-Term Impact: Equip students with skills and opportunities to uplift their families and community.
• Legacy of Giving: Honor the example set by the late Yusuf Manujee, whose generosity continues to inspire change.
The Makanzani Project is about creating a future where every child has access to education, every family has access to opportunity, and every community has the tools to thrive. Together, we’ve built a nursery school, a primary school, a maternity clinic, and essential water and learning infrastructure. Now, let’s complete the next chapter—a secondary school that will unlock the full potential of Makanzani’s children and secure the future of the community.
